Digital Divide

The term digital divide refers to specific social consequences wrought by the proliferation of computer technology--its increasing centrality in public life and its function as a route to social, cultural, and economic capital. The term was coined in the 1990s by Clinton administration speechwriters to show the way adoption of computer technologies correlates with other categories of social privilege, such as income, race, education, and so on.
