A 16th century movement that focused on changing practices and writings of the Roman Catholic Church. Following this reformation, Protestant Churches were established. The reformation was a reaction that many people had in response to certain catholic church practices, including the purchase of acceptance into heaven from purgatory. Martian Luther was the most outspoken advocate of breaking away from the catholic church. This lead to catholic churches response known as the Council of Trent as a way to reform several church practices.

Thanks to the Gutenberg Revolution, the Bible was able to be translated into many languages and more importantly, more available to read. This allowed people to develop their own interpretation of the stories contained and furthermore develop new ideas for their religon.
