The Right to Fork refers to the ability of a community, or sub-community to split from a primary or original community and continue development of a project in a different direction. The so-called "right" of forking stems from copyleft or other forms of free software movements that hold that forking, despite the potential negative effects to the original group's project are completely democratic and consistent with the values of the open source movement.
